Ferguson Fellowship Public Health Leaders Seminar: My Professional Journey

Dr. Andrew Rainey is currently a microbiologist at CDC with National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) where he works on various aspects related to laboratory methods and techniques for the detection of infectious diseases in community wastewater. Dr. Rainey received his bachelor's in animal biology at the University of South Florida, a MPH in environmental health from Emory University, and a PhD in One Health and clinical & translational science from the University of Florida. Dr. Rainey has been working in the field of wastewater surveillance for over 6 years domestically and abroad on projects focused on diseases such as typhoid fever, COVID-19 Salmonellosis, mpox, influenza, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and Shigella. Dr. Rainey plans to continue his work in the emerging field of wastewater surveillance to help build capacity, evaluate and normalize laboratory methodologies, and improve community health.
